Synopsis (translated by: *Dramaok*)
Is the 25 billion won grand production ‘East of Eden’ starring Song Seung-Heon the ‘Hour Glass’ of the 21st century? [02-14-2008]
‘East of Eden (Script: Na Yeon-Sook/ PD Kim Jin-Man)’ with hallyu star Song Seung-Heon as main cast is a megadrama with 25 bilion won (~ $25 million usd) invested in production cost. ‘East of Eden’ is the 2008 project of ambition for Chorokbaem Media, which also produced ‘Jumong’ and ‘Unstoppable Highkick’, and upon casting Song Seung-Heon in starring role, and actors like Yoo Dong-Geun as main cast ensemble, the drama will go into production in March.
The producers plan to film throughout Asia, including Hong Kong, Macao, China, Japan, as they paint an unconventional modern history of Korea from the timeline of 1960s to 2000s. ‘East of Eden’ draws on the story of two men, who were born on the same day at the same time at the same hospital, and their crossed destiny and revenge.
This story will go back to the 1960s, the era of major student protesting activities. Lee Ki-Cheol (Lee Jong-Won), a front-runner of the student protests is thrown into guilt when his lover’s older brother dies instead of him, and he arrives at the coal-minining region of Kang-Won provence. There he tries to stop the evil-acts of Shin Tae-Hwan (Yoo Dong-Geun Jo Min-Ki) of the TaeBaek coal mining station, by organizing a labor union but he is eradicated at the hands of Shin Tae-Hwan. Lee Ki-Cheol’s eldest son, Lee Dong-Cheol (Song Seung-Heon) witnesses the event and vows to seek revenge.
Meanwhile, a nurse at TaeBaek hospital, Miae, who suffered violation from Shin Tae-Hwan switches Shin’s newborn son with Lee Ki-Cheol’s son. Thus, Lee Ki-Cheol’s son grows up as Shin Tae-Hwan’s son Shin Myeong-Hoon (Park Hae-Jin), while Shin Tae-Hwan’s son grows up as Lee Ki-Cheol’s son Lee Dong-Wook (Yeon Jeong-Hoon).
Lee Dong-Wook is recruited into his older brother Lee Dong-Cheol’s revenge plan over their father’s death, and Dong-Wook enrolls in law school at the Seoul University, and becomes a prosecutor. Meanwhile, Shin Myeong-Hoon is raised as heir of a conglomerate, and Lee Dong-Cheol goes over to Hong Kong to begin a new life as the right-hand man of a Korean casino godfather (Yoo Dong-Geun). This is the intense epic centered around these characters who realize their fates have been switched, and the events of modern history intertwined with their lives.
On the account of prosecutor, organized hooligans, and conglomerate storyline, ‘East of Eden’ seems similar to the most popular drama of the 90s, ‘Hour Glass,’ the Kim Jong-Hak and Song Jina combo work. However, if ‘Hour Glass’ centered on the pains of an era, ‘East of Eden’ roots itself on the blood ties that are peculiar to Koreans.
Producers reveal this drama is a work of humanism with its basis set on the love and devotion of family, the sticky blood ties, and the sentiments that are peculiar to Koreans. It is set to air through MBC this June.

[MBC Global Media] This drama revolves around the fate of two men born in the 60s at the same time, and in the same hospital, of a coal mining town.
Shin Tae-hwan is the managing director of a coal mine in Taebaek. As the true embodiment of ambition, he strives to become the inheritor of the coal mining company called the Taesung Group. In this process, he kills Lee Ki-chul, another miner who has been blocking his path to success. For his own selfish pleasure, he also seduces a nurse at Taebaek Hospital, only to coldly brush her away later.
At that moment, the wife of the deceased miner Lee Ki-chul gives birth to a son at Taebaek Hospital. On that same day, Shin Tae-hwan’s wife also gives birth to a baby boy.
Mi-ae is the nurse who has been betrayed by Shin Tae-hwan. In her rage, she comes up with a scheme to fulfill her own revenge. As if to jab a dagger into Shin Tae-hwan’s heart, she switches the two babies born in the same hospital. By doing so, she viciously transforms the fates of the two lives.

Later, Dong-chul becomes the right hand man of a casino mogul. He ascends as a member of the Asian mafia, and eventually comes face-to-face with Shin Tae-hwan. He loves his brother Dong-wook more than his own life, and because of this, he remains aloof from the woman he truly loves.

Kim Ji-hyun / Han Ji-hye (Nam Ji-hyun)
She is the childhood love of Dong-wook but is now the wife of Shin Myung-hoon. She was cursed and ousted by Yang Choon-hee, but she later returns to Yang’s life as her daughter-in-law.

Thank you, Cococrust. You are fast with these uploads. I’ve been looking forward to this series so much. Ann Chong left a message on Aigoo about her anticipation – “breath in, breath out; breath in, breath out …..” – she’s so funny.
With this being a 50 ep series, hope my stamina can catch up with.

Cococrust, thanks for your efforts in uploading this in C-subbed RMVB format.
Where I can get it in C-subbed AVI format instead?
Not sure if the RMVB format is as good quality as those DIvx/Avi/Xvid format, even after conversion. Coz I noticed RMVB each eps only ~300Mb whereas Avi usually 600-700Mb
Comment by dingdangdong — October 26, 2008 @ 11:10 pm
Hi cococrust, the heading says updated to 22, however there is no Ep 22 link towards the page bottom. Did it get deleted? thanks in advance.
Comment by audu — November 9, 2008 @ 2:40 am
Actually.. the 2nd ep 21 link is ep 22. I just wrote it wrongly. Anyway fixed the link title.

– RMVB is a pretty good compression format. For almost the same video bitrate, RMVB can be 1/2 the size of AVI. Reason why I dont upload AVI is they are simply too big size. Not very efficient to distribute. You can get the c-subbed AVIs from TSKS. They are producing RMVB, AVI and MKV formats for this drama. In fact, some other current dramas are also released in those other formats. You can try downloading from those links. I might list out the torrent links fo the AVI/MKV format if there are some requests for it, but I won’t upload the files themselves, since it’s just not efficient. You can in fact use a program called SUPER (google it) to convert the RMVB to Divx/Xvid so you can play the files in divx/vxid enabled DVD players.

wanna ask about the OST 2? is that for East of Eden? or another series?
coz i’ve never heard the songs before…and when i tried to search
there was no second OST for East of Eden…
Comment by yogi — November 19, 2008 @ 8:33 pm
If it is in this post, its the OST for this drama. It’s the 2nd OST release for this drama. Some are newer songs that haven’t been played in the drama yet.

nope. I only upload c-subbed RMVB files since their size is pretty manageable and the quality ain’t too bad.
Comment by co2r — December 1, 2008 @ 7:49 pm
Hello again, I was just wondering If there are any English subtitles suitable for the c-subbed files? Because I tried WITHS2 but It seems It doesn’t work with TSKS :S. The thing Is I want two run the English subtitles just on top of the chinese subs cos I can’t download any other versions cos of larger sizes so I gotta resort to this If it works. xD
thanks
